Kaunas Castle, Lithuania

One of the most magnificent castles of Lithuania is the Kaunas Castle which is not only a historical structure but also represent the architectural brilliance of Lithuania.
It was built in the 13th century and bears witness to the various historical epochs of Lithuania. The Kaunas Castle is an imposing character and is reminiscent of the country's past.

Kaunas Castle in Lithuania was the premier defensive bastion of the country. It enjoys its reputation and fame as the only double walled castle in entire Lithuania. The walls of the castle were originally more than 2 meters wide and 13 meters high. After the crusaders besieged and destroyed it in 1362, the Kaunas Castle was left in ruins. But by 1368 it was rebuilt and made stronger.

As a result of the fortification of the castle, the Kaunas Castle of Lithuania withstood the ravages of time and today, every part of the castle speaks of its long history. Initially the castle consisted of four towers. Centuries of water erosion has led to the washing away of the towers by the waters of river Neris. The northern walls have have also collapsed. But one can still get a clear, if not a complete picture, of the Kaunas Castle.
