The All Basotho Convention is the name of a political party in the South African country of Lesotho. All Basotho Convention was originally under the leadership of Tom Thabane, who was also Lesotho's former foreign minister. All Basotho Convention or ABC is one of the recently formed political parties in Lesotho. The party was formed in 2006, on 25th of October. The All Basotho Convention in Lesotho was initiated by Tom Thabane.
Tom Thabane was a minister in the Lesotho Congress for Democracy or the LCD government. Mr. Thabane was the first member of the All Basotho Convention political party. The founding strength of the party was a total of 18 members. All the 18 members were former parliamentarians belonging to the Lesotho Congress for Democracy. Lehlohonolo Tsehlana, one of the ABC members, was an independent parliamentarian during the time of mass political defection.
The All Basotho Convention directly became the third largest political party in Lesotho's national assembly. The ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy became a minority and fresh elections were held during the month of February, in the year 2007. However, the All Basotho Convention party had limited success in the elections. ABC won 17 of the 120 parliamentary seats. The Lesotho Congress for Democracy or LCD is presently running the country's government.
