Lesotho in Olympics has exhibited sincere efforts in the fields of athletics and other sports. The participation of the athletes of
Lesotho in Olympics from 1972 to 2004 indicates the development of Lesotho sports. Athletes from Lesotho participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics held at Athens, Greece, in the marathon and taekwondo segments.
Thabiso Moqhali is the most successful marathon runner in the Olympics from Lesotho. He won the gold medal in the 1998 Commonwealth Games, which was held in Kuala Lumpur. He also represented Lesotho in Olympics, in the year 2000 and secured the 16th position.
Lesotho Olympic Team has participated in many international competitions and has accentuated the reputation of Lesotho sports and games. The squad of Lesotho athletes in the Summer Olympics of 2004 comprised 4 sports persons:
- Mpesela Ntlot and Mamokete Lechela in athletics
- Puleng Lala and Lineo Mochesane in taekwondo
- Lineo Mochesane was the flag bearer of Lesotho in the Summer Olympics of 2004
The Lesotho Athletics Amateur Association selects the athletes for Olympic games. The Lesotho National Olympic Committee further supports the selected athletes to prepare them for the international competition. The Lesotho National Olympic Committee also provides financial support for the proper training and guidance of the team members of the Lesotho Olympic squad.
