Quthing Moyeni, a town located in the southernmost fringes of Lesotho, has a long and interesting history. Established in the year 1877, Quthing Moyeni was vacated during the Gun War of 1880. It was later rebuilt at its current location in the southern edge of Lesotho. Quthing is also locally known as ‘Moyeni’, which means 'Place of the Wind'.
The town of Quthing Moyeni is divided geographically into two parts, Upper Quthing and Lower Quthing. The former was the seat of colonial administration in Lesotho.
