Teya-Teyaneng, also known as Teyateyaneng, is one of the major towns in the Kingdom of Lesotho. It is located in the northern part of the country in the Berea district. Teya-Teyaneng, the district capital received its name from the name of the river Teja-Tejane, which is located close to the town. Teja-Tejane, when translated, means “Quicksands”. The river got such a name due to the fact that it changes its path frequently.
Teya-Teyaneng is located on the top of a hill. The exact location of the town, according to its geographical coordinates, is 29?09’S latitude and 27?45’E longitude. The settlement in Teya-Teyaneng was founded for the first time in the year 1886 after the first assistant commissioner, Godfrey Lagden, made his visit to the region.
The town is an excellent place to explore the local interests like weaving, knitting and others. It excels in the art of handicrafts and is often referred to as the crafts capital of Lesotho. Some of the major tourist attractions in Teya-Teyaneng in Lesotho include the cave paintings by the people of the San tribe in the outskirts of the town. The education in Teyateyaneng is developed round the two high schools of the town. There is also a hospital in the town.
