Bird Watching in Lebanon


Bird Watching in Lebanon is an integral part of the Lebanon adventure tourism and it is the best place to watch various species of birds. Lebanon is an important destination for the migratory birds and thus they provide opportunities for bird lovers to come and watch the avian activities. Lebanon bird watching is best during mid-September through mid- October and also in early March to mid-April. The presence of various species of migratory birds during the peak season makes bird watching at Lebanon an interesting phenomenon.

The diverse landscapes of Lebanon along with the favorable weather conditions attracts wide array of birds (around 300 species) along with magnificent and rare species like the Imperial Eagle and Sociable Lapwing. Other than these the common bird species are namely the raptors, water birds, harriers, Palestinian Songbird and the Syrian Serin.

The visitors will be amazed to watch such a vast species of birds. There are basically three key areas for bird watching in Lebanon. The Coastal reserves, the Palm Islands Nature reserve and the Tyre coast Nature reserve houses various sea and water birds and are the best place to watch these birds.

The Horsh Ehden Nature Reserve and the Al-Shouf Cedar Reserve are the best place to watch birds like quails, eagles and vultures. The interiors like the plains of the Bekaa Valley and the marshes provide plenty of opportunity for bird watching in Lebanon. A bird sanctuary is housed in the southern village of Ibl Es- Saqi.
