Batroun is a small town in Lebanon that is located 54 km away from Beirut. The name is derived from a Greek word “Beautris LA Belle”, which means 'the beautiful'. The fishing ports and the old churches, namely the St Estephan and Saydet el Natour and the St George Orthodox Church are the primary attractions of this Maronite town.
Built in the 18th century, the St George's Orthodox Church has got 21 marvelous painted panels to offer. The wooden doves are no less beautiful. The St Estephan Church on the other hand is also popularly known as the fisherman's church. Like the St George's Orthodox Church, it is also quite close to the old harbor. A natural pool is created near the harbor due to the sedimentation of sea materials. The Roman Theater is located to the north east of the harbor. However now it is in the yard of a private house.
The lemonade of Batroun is very famous. You can find a number of cafes and juice shops along the main street. Very refreshing lemonade is served here. The market square reveals the great Lebanese architecture. Each shop is unique in its designs. The place becomes very colorful during the Saydet el Bahr festival that takes place on 15th of August.
