Yakhnet Batata is one of those typical Lebanese delicacies that are prepared in Lebanon. The recipe for Yakhnet Batata is a delicious blend of flavor and aroma. To prepare Yakhnet Batata of Lebanon, a number of ingredients are required. Cooking the dish is not very difficult once the ingredients are assembled.
The ingredients that are needed for cooking Yakhnet Balata comprise a whole range of items. 4 and 2/5th pounds of potatoes (preferably Irish potatoes) and 1 pound of meat, which may be rump, fillet, shin, or leg of lamb (beef or pork can also be used) are the major ingredients. The meat should be cut into pieces. Along with these are needed 5 ounces of onions for frying the meat, 4 ounces of onions separately which should be chopped, 1 and half tablespoons of chopped garlic, 2 and a half tbs garlic, 5 ounces sauce of tomato salt, or the juice of 3 tomatoes, 10 ounces of butter, boiling water and ¼ teaspoons of spices.
To cook Yakhnet Batata the first step is to peel the potatoes and cut them in large pieces. They should be washed properly and put in a colander. The butter should be melted for frying the meat. Onions, garlic and meat should be fried till they turn brown in color. To the contents should be added tomato salt sauce or tomato juice, salt, pepper and boiling water. This whole mixture should then be boiled for one hour. Meanwhile the potatoes should be fried in melted butter. These should then be added to the boiled meat along with the tomato juice. The entire mixture should be cooked on a medium flame till the potatoes are cooked well. Finally the contents should be poured on a plate and the dish is ready to be served.
