Fattoush is a Lebanese salad and is a much popular dish of Lebanon. Fattoush salad is generally consumed in hot weather but you can try it anytime if you want .The specialty of Fattoush lies in the preparation process as it requires two main ingredients namely sumac and purslane. Sumac is a ground red berries and are generally used in most of the Lebanese food. Puslane is a weed but is much friendly to the green salads in particular. Puslane is of lemony flavor and are bit succulent.
Dressings required for the preparation of Fattoush are mentioned below:
- 1/ 2 cup of water/ light vegetable broth
- 1 tbs of cornstarch
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 tbs of sumac
- 1/ 3 cup of lemon juice
- Salt and ground pepper to taste
Ingredients required for the Fattoush salad are mentioned below:
- 1 romaine washed, dried and then torn into small pieces
- 1 cucumber finely diced
- 2 large tomatoes finely diced
- 4 green onion finely chopped
- 1/ 4 cup of chopped fresh mint
- 1 green pepper seeded and chopped
- 1 cup of purslane
- 1/ 2 cup of Arugula / watercress leaves
- Pita bread broken into small bits and toasted
Pour water and broth with cornstarch in a saucepan and heat it in a medium flame with constant stirring until the mixture thickens. Now remove the mixture from the heat and add the remaining dressing and set it to refrigerate. Take a large bowl and mix the salad ingredients and then pour the salad dressing to it. Spread the pita bread and mix well before serving and here the delicious and nutritious Lebanese salad Fattoush is ready to taste.
