Among all the festivals of Lebanon is the Baalbeck International Festival that has gained worldwide recognition. One of the oldest festivals of Lebanon and Middle East, the Baalbeck International Festival is held annually in Roman Acropolis during July and August.
The cultural programs of Baalbeck International Festival have been staged in Roman Acropolis since 1955. It was in 1956 that the festival was given its present official name, the Baalbeck International Festival. Over the years the Baalbeck International Festival of Lebanon has experienced a cultural evolution and today it is a major cultural event of the world that constitutes classical music, opera, dances, jazz, theater and modern world music from all over the world. Simultaneously the festival provides a platform for great performers from different continents to express their skills.
The Baalbeck International Festival Lebanon had its shine during the Lebanon civil war. But it did not take long for the festival to regain its previous glory. Highlighting the diversity of Lebanese society the Baalbeck International Festival in Lebanon is a cultural fiesta that adorns the summers of Lebanon with regional and international music. The spectacular lighting, an audience of nearly 40,000 and a variety of presentations ensures the huge success of the festival every year.
Baalbeck International Festival has witnessed the performances of the Lebanese troupe named "Caracalla Dance Theater", the Radio-France Philharmonic Orchestra directed by Marelk Janowski, the jazz band called "The Herbie Hancock Quartet", artists like Nina Simone, Fadia El Hage, the jazz player Ahmad Jamal, Fabio Biondi etc. Held at different sites in Baalbeck like the Jupiter's temple or at the temple of Bacchus, the Baalbeck International Festival offers the spectators an unforgattable experience of music.
