Lebanese Flora


The Mediterranean nation of Lebanon is home to rich and diverse forms of flora. Lebanese flora is known to survive extensively in as many as 3000 species and forms. Though the nation is known to possess a crude terrain and faces extreme weather conditions, a wide variety of flora is known to germinate and blossom in the region.

Vegetation in Lebanon is of various types .Along with flora of the sub tropical regions, some alpine and desert varieties are also found. While low lying area of the country are full of fig trees, olive trees and grapevines , the mountainous regions are replete with maple, fir, juniper, oak, valonia, cypress ,Aleppo and lastly but not in any way least cedar trees.

Lebanon Cedar may well be considered as the national tree of Lebanon. Right from the ancient times the tree has been held in high regard by virtue of the various ordinary and biblical myths associated with it. The tree is symbolic of the Cedar Revolution .The greatest honor bestowed upon it is perhaps its incorporation as the emblem on the national flag of Lebanon.
