Driving in Lebanon

Driving in Lebanon is dictated by the natural conditions and the conditions of the roads of the country. Most of the country is made up of mountainous terrains and sheer coastal cliffs that have plunging steeps. Therefore the roads in Lebanon are sloping and sinuous. The roads are narrow as well. So reckless driving in Lebanon is very dangerous. Moreover the recklessly parked car covers most of the area. The parking space is inadequate for the total number of cars that ply on the roads of Lebanon.

The civil war has effected the country’s development to a great extent. Therefore issues like traffic rules or signals have come into existence only a few years back. Drivers are not yet well-accustomed to traffic rules. Traffic police also do not perform their duties well. Double-parking is not uncommon to this country.

Haphazard parking creates a lot of problem on the roads of Lebanon. Above all the continuous honking of the drivers makes the situation even worse. Driving becomes quite risky because the roads are not well maintained. The driving habit of the people is not safe at all. Driving in Lebanon becomes more difficult during the winter season as most of the roads are covered with snow and ice and become extremely slippery.

These difficulties indicate that to drive in Lebanon one has to be very skilled to avoid accidents. It is advised to obey the traffic rules and be cautious while driving.
