Lebanon Civilizations

Lebanon is a small country in the Middle East, along the Mediterranean Sea. The country of Lebanon has a very rich and significant historical heritage, as it has been the home of many important ancient civilizations, which were immensely powerful and dominant during their times.

The first inhabitants of Lebanon were the Canaanites or the Phoenicians, who made Lebanon their home during the time around 3000 B.C. They were the earliest and original inhabitants of Lebanon. This civilization gave way to eventual Assyrian rule. The Assyrian civilization commanded Lebanon for one and a half century with ruthlessness and tyranny.

The Babylonians ruled for a much longer time, and their rule was ridden with revolts. The empire finally crumbled with the advent of Alexander the Great. Alexander's rule preceded the rule of the Arab empire, which lasted for a long time. The rule of the Arabs changed the face of Lebanon, and had many lasting impacts on its future.

The Ottomans were next to take command of Lebanon. The Ottoman rule was a torrid period, laden with many revolts and violence. After the First World War, Lebanon became the home of the French, who held position in Lebanon till the second World War. Lebanon went back to being a predominantly Arab country, and at present the population largely consists of people of the Arabian descent.

Therefore, we see in Lebanon, civilizations have essentially made their homes and settlements, due to its strategic location and its being rich in resources.
