Lebanon Parliament is the legislative body of the Lebanese Government and Politics. The national legislature of the country is responsible for the making of the laws. Universal adult suffrage is used to elect the members of the Parliament of Lebanon. Members are chosen for a four year term.
The President, the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Ministers are important functional heads of the Lebanese Parliament. The President is elected by the Parliament. It is the responsibility of the President to appoint the Prime Minister of Lebanon with the suggestions from the members of the Lebanon Parliament.
The numerous political parties in Lebanon are based on the religious affiliation of the candidates. The religious communities are alloted a particular number of seats in the Lebanese Parliament. The lists offered to the voters are headed by a prominent political leader. The candidates belonging to the same religious sect are chosen as the other members in the list. Voters choose their representatives from the lists and vote in their favor.
The Speaker of the Lebanon Parliament is another very important personality. The person chosen to be the Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon has various powers at his disposal. He forms the third angle of the power triangle constituting of the President and the Prime Minister.
The electoral system of Lebanon is often criticized by the politicians and leaders. The manipulation of boundaries for an added advantage during the elections is not considered proper by many and the demand for a single constituency has become popular.
