Lebanon Independence was an achievement for the country in the Middle East. The country of Lebanon was given to France after the Second World War by a Mandate issued in 1920. The present borders of Lebanon was declared by France after giving the country its constitution. The French Constitution was the model on the basis of which which the Constitution of Lebanon was made.
France gave Lebanon the right to have a President, a Prime Minister and a Cabinet of Ministers according to the Constitution. The members of the Parliament was to be chosen by universal adult suffrage. However, France continued to control the country of Lebanon even after announcing the independence of Lebanon in 1941.
The Lebanese Government decided to end the Mandate period of France and elected candidates to form the first democratic government in 1943. This gesture of Lebanon was not approved by the French authorities and they immediately captured the chief figures of Lebanese government and politics.
The united forum of the Christian and Muslim political parties created a strong resistance to this move by France. The immense pressure in both regional and international levels resulted in the freedom of the prisoners from the French authorities and ultimately Lebanon became independent from the clutches of France. Lebanon independence was the result of an united resistance.
The years following the independence of Lebanon were quite prosperous for the country, but trouble started brewing for the country once again. Torn by attacks and invasions from countries like Israel, Syria as well as Palestinian militiamen resulted in a terrible condition of the country. The intervention of various international powers ultimately resulted in the return of normalcy in Lebanon.
