Türkmenistan is located in Central Asia and has the Geographic Coordinates of 40°00'N latitude and 60°00'E longitude .

Also known as Turkmenia, Turkmenistan gets its name from the Persian word meaning Land of the Turkmen. The capital of Turkmenistan is the city of Ashgabat with the latitude and longitude of 37°58'N and 58°20'E respectively. Turkmenistan became part of the Soviet Union of states in 1924. It became independent when the Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991° The population of Turkmenistan is estimated at 5,097,028. The majority are Turkmen, while the rest are composed of Uzbeks, Russians and other ethnic tribes.
