The Hmong Lao radio caters to the needs of the Hmong community in Laos as well as in USA. Having a sizable number of people in Minnesota, the Hmong community has programs which are to their interest and liking being broadcast in the Hmong Lao radio.
Hmong Lao radio was set up in 2002 in the state of Minnesota. It is identified as a non-government and non-profit organization, set up for the interests and the welfare of people of the Hmong community located in all corners of the world. Since then, it has catered to the needs of the substantial Hmong community in the United States and millions of Hmong people in Asia. The Hmong have their own dialect which is their favored medium of communication.
The main objective and purpose of the Hmong Lao radio is to convey high standard of information, news, entertainment and educational programs to the huge Hmong population in Laos. The Hmong were actually a tribe residing in the hills, and have long been at the receiving end of discrimination, oppression and general derision from other people. They have consistently been cut off from civilization, and have very high mortality rates and very low literacy rates. They have participated significantly in the Vietnam war.
The Hmong Lao radio serves to enlighten the Hmong community, provide them with impetus to pursue education and help them recover from the oppression and discrimination they once faced. It also provides enlightenment about health concerns like HIV/AIDS and other health-related issues.
