International Relations of Laos

The international relations of Laos are influenced greatly by the sway communism on this country. As the country of Laos is landlocked its foreign relation is also affected by this. In recent years the effect of communism and the influence of Vietnam have reduced and the country has begun to take independent stand. In history when Laos was under French rule the situation was different. Later with the influence of Untied State on this country after the Second World War had significantly changed the country’s profile in the world politics. The significant rise of Vietnam in the sub-continent of South East Asia impacted the country and also the foreign policy of Laos. Apart from the geographic constraints the demographic uniqueness also to an extent influences the foreign policies of Laos. United Nations, ASEAN, G77 and Non Aligned Movement are few of the international organizations of which Laos is a member.
