Manas International Airport is the prime international airport in Kyrgyzstan. The location of this airport is 25 km or 16 miles away from the north-west from the capital Bishkek and at the center of Chu valley.
The Manas Air Base is a US Air Force base supervising Operation Enduring Freedom and the International Security Assistance Force in the neighboring country Afghanistan, which is functioning at this airport. The name 'Manas' was given after the ancient national hero. Though the name suggests the foundation to be very old, yet it is commercially the most modern airport in Central Asia. Another international airport is at Osh primarily for civil air service. Manas International Airport is scheduled with five commercial flights every day.
Manas has a runaway13,800-foot long specially built for Soviet bombers. There is space for parking four C-17 or C-5 cargo planes beside the taxiway. The first aircraft landed in 1974 at this Kyrgyzstan airport. The conveyance is very frequent to and from the Manas Airport which makes it accessible during any hour of the day. This is the only airport in this region which is served by the aviation security, that assures the international security criteria.
The Manas International Airport is facilitated by restaurants, cafe, aviation-cashiers, VIP auditoriums, information desks, shopping complex, business halls and assisting centers to cater to the requirements of passengers.
