Football in Kyrgyzstan



Football in Kyrgyzstan is a very popular sport. The governing body is the Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic. The organization was founded in the year 1992. The Kyrgyzstan National Football team is the national team of Kyrgyzstan. Before independence this team was a part of the Soviet Union football team. After breaking away they played their first independent match against Kazkhstan in 1992.

The Kyrgyzstan National Football team experienced its biggest win against Maldives. It defeated Maldives 6-1 on June 13. After its split from Soviet Union the National Football team did not qualify for the World Cup from 1996 to 2004. The team succeeded in entering the semi finals of the 2006 AFC Challenge Cup record. The captain of the team is Vladimir Salo. The home stadium is the Spartak Stadium. The top goal scorers in this team are Sergey Kutsov, Zamirbek Jumagulov, Sergey Chikishev and Farhad Haybayev. The main football clubs in Kyrgyzstan are the Adbish-Ata Kant, Dordoi-Dynamo Naryn, Mettallurg Kadamjay and Zhashtyk Ak Altyn Kara-Suu.

The two main Kyrgyzstani football competitions are the Kyrgyzstan Cup and the Kyrgyzstan League. The Kyrgyzstan Cup is Kyrgyzstan's main tournament in men's football. The Dordoi-Dynamo Naryn club won the title for three consecutive years of 2004, 2005 and 2006. Kyrgyzstan League was created in 1992 and is the top division of the Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic.

The federation is trying to implement new policies to improve and revive football in Kyrgyzstan.
