Kyrgyzstan Hunting with Eagles



Kyrgyzstan Hunting with Eagles refer to a traditional art of the country, which is still in practice. Kyrgyzstan-Hunting with Eagles is also called Berkutchi by the professional hunters of Kyrgyzstan. Berkutchi is a respected group of people as they protect the villagers and their herds from the hunting, wolves, foxes and other such predators. For the purpose of hunting a young eagle is trained for a long period of time. The bird is kept sightless until it completely depend upon its master. This intimacy resulted into lifelong association between the Eagle and its master.

The people of Tien Shan Mountains, carries an age-old relationship with the powerful predator. With the golden eagle, the Kyrgyz people are often refer as the falcon hunters. To celebrate the association of the people of Kyrgyzstan with the golden Eagle, Kyrgyzstan Hunting Festival is celebrated every year near the village of Bokonbayevo, which is located at a distance of 186 miles from Bishkek. In the national festival 20 hunters along with their dogs and eagles take part in the celebration. Berkutchi-falconers are experience and efficient people who can precisely recognize the characteristics of a quality bird. Other birds used for hunting are sparrow hawk, saker, peregrine, goshawk, gyrfalcon and so on. Hunting with Eagles in Kyrgyzstan is the famous activity of the country and is prime attractions for the tourists.

The season for Kyrgyzstan Hunting with Eagles is between October and February.
