Kyrgyzstan is one of the extended glaciated regions in the world. The Kyrgyzstan Glaciers count up to 8208 in the entire territory. The largest among the glaciers in Kyrgyzstan is the Tien-Shan glaciers.
The Kyrgyzstan Glaciers are a vital part of the landscape not only for enhancing the beauty but it also serves the purpose of moisture accumulators too. The glacier in Tien-Shan covers an area of 0.5 km2 but if melts can produce water of 200 hectare inseminating the soil. Thus the total amount of preserved water in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan in form of glaciers are 650 billion m3, which transcends at an increased rate of almost 12 times, while it flows as a river in the country.
The area and size occupied by the glaciers in Kyrgyzstan varies. Usually the area covered by icing is 8,169.4 km2, or 4.2% of the total territory. The main glaciated regions are in the extreme east, the basin of the river Sary-Jaz. Here the largest plain glaciers are formed and also in the southern part of the Zailiy ridge. The biggest glaciers in Kyrgyzstan, are naturally located in Khan-Tengri and Pobeda peaks.
Some of the notable glaciers of Kyrgyzstan are Enilchek Glacier in the Peak Pobeda and Khan Tengri in the Eastern Tien Shan. Kyrgyzstan Glaciers play a significant role in the changing climate of the country.
