The Kyrgyzstan Ecosystems has a broad spectrum of biodiversity because of the wide variations in the vegetation, flora and fauna. The wildlife and plantation is widely diversified in Kyrgyzstan.
Fauna in Kyrgyzstan include almost 500 species of vertebrates, which is again sub divided into 83 mammals, 28 reptiles, 368 birds and 75 fishes. Further research shows that besides 2,000 species of fungi, almost 3,000 insect species also exists.
The topography of Kyrgyzstan has extensive diversions because of high altitudes. Almost 1% of all the known kind of animals are concentrated on 0.13% of land surface in Kyrgyzstan. Mainly the mountain and alpine species are present all over the territory. Biodiversity in Kyrgyzstan has been influenced by some factors recently.
The species of Kyrgyzstan is counted on a huge rate. The National Report on the Environment in the year 1998-1999 says, 13 mammals, 2 fish, 32 birds, 3 reptiles, and 19 insect species are endangered in the Red Data Book of Kyrgyzstan. Though it makes up 1% of Kyrgyzstan's biodiversity, these species hold an considerable importance in the symbolic tradition of the country.
According to a report, Kyrgyzstan has a flora collection of 4,500 species. Almost 300 species of wild herbs were declared as rare and on the way to extinction. These species are expensive medical herbs. Almost 843,000 hectares of land is calculated to be under forest coverage.
The Kyrgyzstan Ecosystems is firmly controlled by the Kyrgyzstan State Forest Fund. The afforestation, sanctuary and preservation programmes are gradually carried out in yearly planning.
