Jalal-Abad State University



The Jalal-Abad State University (JASU) started its journey on April 2, 1993. The campus of the Jalal-Abad University is located in the main town of Jalal Abad. After the independence of Kyrgyzstan in 1991, from Soviet Union the Jalal-Abad region was secluded from the former administrative capital of the Osh region. To maintain the existing technology and to develop new resources trained specialists were needed. The Jalal-Abad State University was founded to meet this growing demand. The university has more than 4,300 students and 250 faculty members. Three faculties and 18 departments are located in the main campus of the university. Other faculties are located in the towns of Kara-Kul and Tash-Kumyr. There are two colleges in Mayluu-Suu and Kochkor-Ata.

Each and every campus in JASU reflects its own identity and character. The different faculties have several departments under them. Under the Business and Pedagogical faculty various departments are mathematics, physics, biology, english language, foreign language, Kyrgyz language and literature, Russian language, psychology, philosophy, physical education, computer science and economics. The various other faculties of the Jalal-Abad State University are the Zoological-Veterinary Technical School, the Technological Faculty. The technical faculty has departments of chemistry, food products technology and mechanics under it. The Kara Kul Technical Faculty in 1963 was set up with the aim of supplying trained specialists to maintain and manage the construction of Toktogul hydroelectric power station, which is the biggest in the whole of Central Asia. Students graduating from this technical school have a high demand in other developing countries of the world. The Tash-Kumyr technological faculty is the youngest faculty founded in 1990. The departments under this faculty are chemical technology, electrical energy, mathematics and physical sciences, social sciences and industrial and civil construction. The Kochkor-Ata Electronic Technical College was the first to introduce electronics and microelectronics. Last but not the least is the Mayluu-Suu Electromechanical college. It offers courses in electrical technology and metal technology.

The libraries of Jalal-Abad State University have an extensive stock of books. It subscribes to 64 magazines and journals and 18 newspapers.
