Kyrgyzstan oil and gas resources are developing rapidly in the central Asian mountainous country. Oil and gas in Kyrgyzstan is produced from two oil/gas and seven developed oil fields. Kyrgyzneftgaz is the joint stock company owned by the state obligated to production of gas and oil, and is currently seeking a foreign partnership for introduction of modern techniques of gas and oil boring. Kyrgyzstan had earlier not completely made use of its internal reserves, since it always counted on Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan for oil and gas imports.
Kyrgyzstan's declared and proven crude oil reserve is currently merely 40 million barrels. These oil plants produce heavy fuel, diesel, and gasoline. In the 1990s, two refineries for changing condensed gas into gasoline were built in the Chui oblast of Kyrgyzstan. They were constructed by the Kyrgyz-American company Vostok, which meets about two fifths of Kyrgyzstan's gasoline requirements.
Natural gas answers for about 30% of Kyrgyzstan's total energy consumption. Kyrgyzstan has approximated natural gas reserves of around 200 Bcf, but these accumulations are not easy to use. Right now, Kyrgyzstan does not possess the money to use these reserves nor the infrastructure for boosted natural gas operations .
The $5 million credit, extended by the World Bank on the July of 2000, for technical facilitation of Kyrgyzstan's energy sector, particularly Kyrgyzgaz, has provided a tremendous fillip to the energy sector.
