Kyrgyzstan media have always enjoyed much more freedom in comparison to media in other countries of the region. However, in the recent past, media in Kyrgyzstan have been subjected to growing pressures. Kyrgyzstan media agencies that are privately owned often have to face difficult financial situations because of fines imposed as a result of slanders. Kyrgyzstan media agencies include television, press agencies, newspapers, radio, news service, publishing and journals. Among these agencies, television dominates media of Kyrgyzstan. Steps are being taken to extend the coverage of national television networks and national state operated radio.
Kyrgyzstan news media includes internet news media, press agency news media, broadcast news media and news paper news media. Some of these are local Kyrgyzstan media, while some are national. Foreign media also has a presence in Kyrgyzstan. Times of Central Asia is a foreign newspaper of the country, whereas Slovo Kyrgyzstan is a national newspaper of the country. Press agencies of Kyrgyzstan consist of Kabar, AKI Press and 24.
Television broadcasting corporations in Kyrgyzstan include Kyrgyz National TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation, Kyrgyz Public Educational TV, Independent Bishkek TV, Piramida, Ecological Youth TV and NTS. Among these only Kyrgyz National TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation is owned by the state. It runs two networks. Most of the privately owned radio stations and television networks have their bases in Bishkek. The radio broadcasting corporations of the country feature Kyrgyz National TV and Radio Broadcasting Corporation, Almaz, Russkoye radio, Ekho Bishkeka and Auto Radio.
