Political Importance of Kuwait City The Al-Sabah family, which rules the Emirates of Kuwait, is residents of Kuwait City since the 18th century. The present chief of state is Amir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah. Kuwait City houses the 'Majlis Al-Umma' or Kuwait National Assembly. The Assembly or Parliament is headed by Prime Minister Nasir Muhammad al-Ahmad al-Sabah.
