Kuwait President

The Kuwait president or the Amir, as he is known in Kuwait is the crowned head of the state, though he has very little active political career. He acts according to the directions given by the Prime Minister. Inspite of this, the president of Kuwait has the final say in every state issue. The Kuwait government is a constitutional monarchy. The Amir of Kuwait is a descendant of the royal family.

Responsibilities of Kuwait President
Kuwait president is addressed as 'His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait'. Amir has the final say in defense matters, laws and bills. No law can be passed without his consent. It is His Highness, who appoints and dismisses the Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers.

The Kuwait President represented Kuwait in the Arab League and heads the office of the Head of Kuwaiti delegations in the United Nations.
At present (2007) the president is HH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who is the fifteenth president of the country. Born in 1929, the Kuwait president is the son of the late Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Amir has received his primary education in schools and finished his further education with the private tutors. He has been into politics for the last forty years and has served the country as the Foreign Affairs Minister since 1963. Besides, in 1957, he was also the Chairman of the Department of Social Affairs and also the chairman of the Department of Press and Publication. HH Sheikh Sabah was appointed the Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait in the 1978.

His highness Sheikh Sabah also served departments like higher Executive Committee, Constituent Assembly of Kuwait and the Ministry of Information. Even HH Sheikh Sabah was also a member of the Parliament.
