Kuwait government is a democratic government with an Amir or the crowned head. Kuwait, though a sovereign and independent Arab state, has a crowned head, as provisioned by the constitution of the country. The
government of Kuwait comprises the cabinet ministers, the judiciary, executive and the legislature. These are the main branches of Kuwait government.
The Amirs are the royal descendants of Kuwait. The functions of Amir are similar to that of the President. The Amir acts according to the directions given by the Prime Minister, who is the acting head of Kuwait government. HH Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al- Sabah is the present (2007) Amir of Kuwait.
The Amir of Kuwait looks into the executive and legislative powers of the Kuwait government along with the cabinet ministers and the national assembly respectively. The government of Kuwait is headed by the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is appointed by the Amir. On Prime Minister's recommendation the cabinet ministers are duly elected by the Amir.
Kuwait is a democratic country and holds free and fair elections. The elected members hold respected posts in the Kuwait National Assembly. The national assembly has strength of 50 members, elected by the people of Kuwait. The members hold their posts for four years. The cabinet ministers look into the executive powers of the Kuwait government. The cabinet ministers are responsible to the Amir for the functioning of the Kuwait government.
