North Korea or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in East Asia is located on the Northern half of the Korean Peninsula. It covers an area of 122,098 square kilometers. The capital of North Korea is Pyongyang. The country has a communist one-man dictatorship type of government.

The climate of North Korea is characterized by hot summers and harsh cold winters mainly due to the cool winds blowing from Siberia and Manchuria. In the winters the rivers remain frozen for 3-4 months. Rainfall occurs from July to September. In Pyongyang the mean temperatures range from -8 degrees Celsius (January) to 24 degrees Celsius(August). On the whole the climate can be described as temperate.
The North Korea Flag consists of 3 horizontal bands -the top band is blue followed by a red band of triple width which in turn followed by again a blue band. The red band is bordered in white and consists of a white disk which encloses a red five pointed star.
The population of North Korea is 23,113,019 by the latest 2006 estimate. Majority of the population consists of Koreans and ethnic Chinese and Japanese form the minority. The official language in North Korea is Korean. Religious practices are not allowed to exist in this communist country.

The population of North Korea are been able to survive the food crisis due to the many international food aid programmes.
