Korea is located on the
Korean Peninsula in East Asia and is divided into two parts,
North Korea and
South Korea. Historically, the border of
Korea had always fluctuated but today
Korea is bordered by China in the North West where the
Amnok River separates
Korea from China, Russia to the North East where the
Duman River separates the two countries, Japan in the South East across the
Korea Strait and the Yellow Sea in the West.
Korea had always been referred to as the land of "Rivers and Mountains Embroidered in Silk"and the "Eastern Nation of Decorum". From time immemorial invaders have been charmed by the beauty of the land of
Korea. This beauty and charm is reflected in the different aspects of the
culture, society and
customs of
Korea. All the
festivities of Korea are about vibrant color and lights. The vivacious character of the country is reflected in every aspect of their livelihood. A strange custom that is practiced in
Korea is the
age reckoning system. In this system a child is considered to be a year old when he is born and their age increments every new year rather than on their birth day.
Kimchi is probably th most famous
dish in Korea.
