Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park was named as a national Park from 1948. Tsavo West National Park is famous for the Chaimu volcanic crater. However, the astounding Shetani Lava Flow, and diverse caves calls for special attention of the visitors. It has recently suffered a volcanic activity.

Attraction of Tsavo West National Park:

The greatest attraction of Tsavo West National Park is its precious underwater observatory which offers the opportunity to watch hippopotamus, barbells and crocodiles, and on the land gerenuk, a long necked antelope, wild dogs and Zebras. The natural beauty of grand Lugard falls, Roaring Rocks, the enchanting Mzima Springs and Ngulia Rhino sanctuary also account for its popularity. But the most enchanting feature of Tsavo West National Park is Lake Jipe.

The popularity of Tsavo West National Park is to a great extent increased due to the "Man Eaters of Tsavo" incident which happened during the period when the Uganda Railway construction was going on. A group of lions started eating the laborers engaged in the railway construction project on a regular basis. In fact, this incident acted as the theme for a very famous movie called "Ghost and the Darkness." There is also the evidence of a carriage from which they carried off a traveler which is now on display in the Nairobi Railway Museum.

Lodges such as Ngulia, Kilaguni Serena and campsites like Simba, Kenge, Lake Jipe and Kamboya offer peaceful retreat in Tsavo West National Park.
