Amboseli National Park was conferred the status of a National Park in 1974. The area covered by Amboseli National Park is around 392 sq km. Amboseli National Park is located at the southern foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro and in the southeastern section of Nairobi.
The Amboseli National Park can be reached through Mombasa road from Nairobi and the Namanga Arusha Road. Amboseli National Park is a habitat for numerous wild animals. Especially the elephants with huge tusks which are the specialty of Africa, the lions and the cheetahs attract the audience's attention most with their gaming activities. However, the buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, water bucks, are also popular.
This park is full of swamps which are sustained by the underground streams created by the melting snows of Mt. Kilimanjaro. These swamps are vibrant with birds such as Madagascer, Taveta Golden Weaver, Taita Falcon, squacces, huge vultures, heron, and lapwing.
Amboseli National Park provides opportunities for adventure and thrill especially in camel safari and game viewing. Mt. Kilimanjaro provides facility for hiking and camping. Amboseli Serena Lodge provides a luxurious resting amidst the sights and sounds of the national park.
The Amboseli National Park contains the villages of Masai tribes. These tribes are very famous for their unusual physical strength. They have temporary houses called Manyatta made of available forest materials. Amboseli National Park is an ideal tourist spot and attracts many nature lovers who also have a liking for wildlife.
