Radio plays an integral part in the everyday lives of the Kenyans. National and regional networks and local radio stations like Kameme FM; Kiss FM etc. are a rage in Kenya. The whole Kenyan population listening to the radio, the radio market is full up to the brim with 20 stations running successfully at present. Whereas the national and regional stations has a wider coverage the local stations has a limited domain of functioning. Kameme FM therefore is not a popular radio station beyond the Kenyan borders though it is quite a well known one in Kenya.

Kameme FM started its broadcast on 22nd December, 1999 and gained its official status on 2nd March, 2000. The station functions in 3 languages, Kikuyu (70%), Kiswahili (15%) and English (15%). The Broadcast of Kameme FM takes place from Longonot Place studios on Kijabe Street in Nairobi. The signal is linked to a transmitter on the roof on Lonrho house through n STL (a microwave studio transmitter link).
Aired on 101.1 FM, Kameme FM is a contemporary radio station oriented towards a community of listeners comprising the Kikuyu speaking inhabitants of Nairobi and Greater Nairobi area, Central Region and Eastern Region of Meru, Embu which are made up of Ngong, Kiserian, Uthiru, Kiambu and Thika people.
Kameme FM can be a good way to reach the interiors of Kenya and learn about the people, their tastes and their lifestyle.
