This independent daily is and has been free from state control. The Government has anyway kept a strict watch over the newspaper. The incident of 2006 proves this beyond doubt. The raid conducted on the premises of Standard Kenya after the publication of a particularly sensitive article was a sign of it.

The Standard Group has expanded its field in1996 when it ventured in television network. The launch of Kenya Television Network(KTN) was another addition to its thriving business.
