Kenya stamps has a distinctive history behind it. Kenya was under the rule of the colonizers and during that time no postal stamp indicating Kenya as an independent country was issued. All the postal stamps of that period featured the contemporary king of the ruling nation. But after gaining independence Kenya has now its own distinctive postal stamps featuring several things.
Kenya has its own postal corporation as well that looks after all the postal stamp related issues. However, the first postal stamp of Kenya was issued along with the names of two other colonies. From 1935 to 1961 the stamps that were issued were all under the name of Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika. These stamps were issued under the East African Post and Telecommunication Administration. These stamps that used all the names of the African British Colony, were issued as the commemorative stamps to honor and celebrate the silver jubilee of King George V.
Apart from the commemorative stamp, Kenya had its series of definitive stamps as well. These definitive stamps described the picture of the King and also a series of sceneries of Kenya locality. These stamps with the same profile and picture were issued again in the year of 1938 though this time the picture of the king was of King George Vl. Kenya had its several stamps printed after its independence.
The Postal Corporation of Kenya was established in the year 1999. It is a result of the separation that took place in the Kenya Post and Telecommunication Corporation that was divided into three parts. Now, the Postal Corporation of Kenya looks after all postal related issues in Kenya including its stamp services.
