The Kenya flag is an extraordinary and colorful flag depicting the spirit of Africa. The current flag of Kenya was adopted in the year 1963 when it finally got out of the shackles of its colonizer. The flag of the party which led to the independence of Kenya from the British rule was the inspiration behind the current flag. The name of the party is Kenyan African National Union which was hugely responsible for the transformation of the country from a dominion to a republic. The Kenyan flag has three horizontal bands on it of the colors black, red and green. The black band is located right at the top with the red following it. The stripes have a thin wide band running in between them. The centre of the flag of Kenya is adorned with an emblem which depicts a shields and spears of the warriors of the Masai clan. The flag is of the proportion of 2:3. The black band on the top of the black represents the African people who are the majority in Kenya. The bloodshed which was caused during the struggle for independence is the reason behind the choice of the color red in the flag. The green color of the Kenyan flag signifies the forests and vegetation of the country. The white color symbolizes peace and the emblem stands for the constant preparedness of the Kenyan people to defend their sovereignty and freedom.
