Ambulance Services in Kenya mostly consists of the Air Ambulance Services provided by various organizations. The cities of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kikuyu and Eldoret have well-connected ambulance services. However the remote, interior parts of Kenya are not so fortunate. It is due to their location that only Air ambulance services can gain access to these parts of the country.
Many prominent Hospitals like Kenyatta National Hospital, Diani Beach Hospital, Nairobi Hospital have their own well-equipped ambulances.
The St.John Kenya Ambulance Service, established in 1928 as a part of the Police Force, has developed during the 1950s as one of the most important ambulance services in Kenya. With its group of nine ambulances, the St.John Kenya Ambulance Service provides service to places in and around Nairobi. It also takes an active part in public services.
The most significant air ambulance service is the Flying Doctor Service set up in1957. Controlled by African Medical Research & Education Fund(AMREF), this ambulance service is quite popular and fast. A huge number of various aircrafts fitted with medical apparatus and attending doctor and nurse are the most important facility available in this service.
African Air Rescue is another air ambulance service providing Emergency Response ambulance to individuals as well as to the companies like Celtel associated with it. EAR-Medivac is also an air ambulance service operating mostly in Nairobi.
The ambulance service in Nairobi and the other cities are good and Kenya is trying to expand the services to other parts as well.
