Since mid 1997 Kenya is suffering from the vital epidemic disease Cholera. According to WHO in 1997 the total number of Cholera cases was 17200 out of which 555 were dead and in 1998 out of 22432, 1237 were dead.
From mid November there were 132 Cases of Cholera in Kenya. From 132 cases 3 cases were very fatal. Contaminated water supply was the main source of Cholera. A health alert has been issued by the Health officials.
On 22nd September 1997 Cholera broke out in Kenya. In Migori District, Nyanza Province the Cholera broke out in the mid June which was reported by the health authorities. From June to 24th August there were 555 cases of Cholera out of which 29 died from Cholera. The Ministry of Health has taken effective measures for controlling the outbreak of cholera by health education and case management which is still persisting. South western Kenya was affected from Cholera in 1997.
On 20th January 1999 Cholera broke out in Kenya. Kenya’s Ministry of Health informed that on 27th December 1998 Cholera was broke out in Nyanza, Eastern, and Rift Valley and in the Provinces of Nairobi. On 19th January 1999 out of 1025 cases, 25 people died out of Cholera. In collaboration with WHO a National Cholera Control Task Force has been arranged by the Ministry of Health. In Provinces and Districts the same Task Forces has been formed too.
The number of Kenya’s Cholera cases is decreasing because the Outbreak of Cholera has come under control. Police investigation and health education activities have taken place for taking a good care of Kenya Health.
