Kenya became independent in the year 1963 after a long period of colonization. The Kenya National Anthem was composed to show respect to the motherland and also to the patriots like Didan Kimathi, who lead the Mau Mau movement against British colonizers. Originally it is composed in Kiswahili, the national language.

The way of composing Kenya's National Anthem was completely different, since it was prepared by the local people. The commission includes five member. The head of them was the Kenya Music Adviser. The tune was based on the traditional tune sang by mother to their children.
