Moi University is Kenya's leading institution in the fields of teaching, research and development. Established in 1984,
Moi University is the second Public University in Kenya.
The
Moi University is located at
Eldoret, which is at a distance of 310km from
Nairobi, the capital of
Kenya. The
Moi University Act of
Kenyan Parliament set up this university in the year 1984. At the time of its inception, it was mainly an institute for science and technology courses with a relatively small number of arts courses.
The first batch had 83 students, transferred from the Department of Forestry of the University of Nairobi. Since then, it has grown from strength to strength, developing rapidly. From the initial one faculty of Forest Resources and Wildlife Management, it has now 13 schools spread across the University campus.
The
Moi University is situated at
Eldoret, a rapidly growing industrial town. The rural setting and scenery of the University provide a perfect environment for intellectual pursuits. There are currently three
campuses, and two satellite
campuses at
Nairobi and
Kitale.

Moi University offers graduate, post-graduate, and doctoral programs, and a variety of other courses. The total number of students is now 14,855 of whom 13,984 are undergraduates. The staff has 2,748 members.
