Kings Highway

The Kings Highway is an ancient route of Jordan. Both sides of this highway feature several archaeological sites of prehistoric times. Winding through various ecological zones of Jordan, the Kings Highway takes turns through many biblical towns, crusaders castles and Islamic towns. The thoroughfare was first mentioned in Bible. It was the main street through which Moses led his disciples in southern Jordan. It is also being said that this highway of Jordan has derived its name from Genesis 14.

The Kings Highway of Jordan stretches about 335 kilometers and passes through farmland, plateaus, forests, deserts and the Aqaba Tropical Gulf. The Kings Highway also makes it way through several Nabataean temples, Roman fortresses and towns of different kingdoms.

The ideal way of exploring this highway is to rent a car and spend number of days on the Kings Highway in Jordan. You can avail a car in Aqaba and Amman and enjoy a long drive on the road. A number of hotels have come up along the Highway to provide accommodation facilities to the travelers.

The Kings Highway takes a turn from Amman and winds southwards passing through the Ammonites, a biblical kingdom. The important sites include Aroer, Madaba and Hisban. It also passes through the Wadi Wala valley and jumps into the Grand Canyon. Petra, the Nabataean capital, is one of the major stop on this highway.
