With its favored location by the western part of Tokyo Bay in the Kanto region of Japan , the city of Yokohama is proclaimed as the second biggest city of Japan as well as the capital of Kanagawa Prefecture. It takes about 30 minutes to reach Yokohama by train from Tokyo. The entire area of approximately 438 square kilometers provides the home ground for more than three million people.
During the last part of the Edo era (1603-1867), when Japan secluded the terrain from the remaining part of the globe, countries of the West impelled the country of Japan to open up its seaports for merchandising with foreign states. In the mid 19 th century, Yokohama's port became one of the foremost ports to be started. Soon Yokohama developed as one of Japan's eminent cities from a little angling village.
Other than the port area, the city of Yokohama integrates a significant part of the industrial area of Keihin. The city is well planned with an advanced railway system and transportation center to link up with several cities of Tokyo. A number of major attractions which allure tourists worldwide are:
- Yokohama China Town
- Minato Mirai 21
- Ramen Museum
- Waterfront Promenade
- Sankeien
