The monarchy of Jamaica is shared among a number of commonwealth countries. The current Jamaican monarch is Elizabeth II who is in this position since 1962. The governor general of this country acts as a representative of the monarch of Jamaica. The monarchy of Jamaica is the Queen of England because this country was under British rule for a significant amount of time. The countries which fall under the realm of commonwealth like Jamaica has the monarchy of England as their de jure head. The appointment of the governor general of Jamaica is made by the monarch of this country. Apart form the monarch Jamaica also consists of a royal family who are the kin of the queen. This shared monarchy of Jamaica plays an important role in the international relation of this country. The monarch though the head of the state is not the functional head. Every action and function of the monarchy is determined by the legislature. The ministers of Jamaica are responsible for properly guiding the monarch regarding its duties. Elizabeth II is declared as the Queen of Jamaica in its constitution. The succession to the monarchy of Jamaica is dependent on the succession to throne on United Kingdom.
