Catalina Island

The Catalina Island is located off the southern Californian coast in USA. Keep surfing Mapsofworld for further information and choices on Islands around the world and also for information on other places.

The Catalina Island is formally known as the Santa Catalina Island. The Catalina Island makes up a part of the state of California in the USA. Most of the island forms a part of a non-profit organization called the Catalina Island Conservancy who aims towards protecting the island. The original inhabitants of the island are the Tongva Indians. The formation of the land mass of the Catalina Island happened the way it generally did for the mountains – by the shift of tectonic plates. So unlike most islands the Catalina Island is not volcanic in origin. However, this factor does not prove detrimental towards the flora and fauns in the island. The flora on the island is dense with some 400 varieties and species growing in the island. The other thick and thriving aspect is the fauna; with plentiful marine and avian life. The reefs around the island are truly superb too. The ship wrecks and the flying fish are the two other things that complete the unique picture of the Catalina Island.

Life simply teems at the Catalina Island. To get to the island you can avail of land, air or water services; all of which are efficient and convenient. There are plenty of things to do besides lazing in the endless beaches on the island. You could go tripping all over the island and check out on places like Catalina Island Museum , Wrigley Memorial & Botanical Gardens , Catalina Country Club , Holly Hill House and Catalina Island Golf Course . Foodies have every reason to rejoice with there being eating places in every nook and corner of the island. Some of the must-try places are: Armstrong's Seafood , Avalon Seafood , Catalina Country Club , Steve's Steakhouse , The Landing , Sandtrap Restaurant , Buffalo Springs Station , Coyote Joe's Bar and Restaurant , Pic Nic Fry , Mr. Ning's Chinese Garden , Katie's Kitchen , Catalina Coffee and Cookie Company and Courtyard Coffee .
