Iran Insurance has a history it traces back to 80 years ago when two Russian Insurance companies came to Iran and opened its branch offices and this led to the establishment of Iran Insurance Company. Iran Insurance Company is the first state owned and independent institution offering insurance policies to the people in Iran. By 1970 many other insurance companies came in the market. Besides, the law for the Central Insurance of Iran was also passed in Parliament. The working of the foreign insurance companies was withdrawn after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
Ten foreign insurance companies merged with Dana Insurance Company due to this revolution. Dana Insurance Company thus has the responsibility of supervising, promoting, regulating the business of Iran insurance. The company has great reputation in the Middle East market. Article 70 lays down some laws that should be followed in taking insurance. They are as follows:
- All immovable and movable must be insured according to the current laws of Iran
- Insurance is essential for imported goods
- Insurance for foreigner workers and employees residing in Iran
- laws relating to the insurance of the residents of Iran

The premium is generally levied on the total salary base of a worker or employee but there is no deduction from the travel allowances, bonuses and family allowances.
