Pre Islamic Zoroastrian era forms the basis of the Iranian Festivals. Iranian Festivals are celebrated all over the country and also by all the communities residing in Iran . The festivals that are celebrated all over the the country by the Iran is are as follows:
- Jasne Sade or the Festival of fire: This is celebrated to defeat the forces of darkness or evil power and to honor fire. It is celebrated all over Iran with great grandeur. It is celebrated in mid winter
- Nowruz: It is celebrated on the first day of Spring, in March and it is regarded as the New Year's Day. Nowruz has been celebrated in one form or the other by the Sumerians, Akaddians and the Babylonians. Iran is has been celebrating Nowruz for more than 3000 years
- Jasane Mehragan: It is known as the festival of Mihr or Mehr. It is regarded as a day of thanksgiving and it is dedicated to the highest Angel, Mithra. Jasane Mehragan is celebrated to pay homage to the Zoroastrian deities.These deities symbolises the forces benefial to all human beings
- Farvardingan: It is regarded the festival of the guardian angels or Farohars
- Esfandgan: This is a festival to celebrate love.
- Xordad Sal: It celebrates the birthday of the Prophet Zarathustra.
- Shab e cheleh or Yalda Festival: It is celebrated forty days before the major Iranian Festival'Jasne e Sadeh''
- Chahar Shahbeh Suri: It is also known as the Festival of the last Wednesday. The last ten days of the year the ancient Iranis pay a homage to guardian angels and the spirits of the dead
These festivals are celebrated mainly by the Zoroastrians and other communities in Iran.
