Tehran University is the oldest and largest university of Iran. It is popularly known as "The mother university of Iran".
Situated in Tehran, the university is one among the most eminent Iranian institutions. It is indeed the one of the leading Iranian universities.
The emblem of Tehran University was being designed by Dr. Mohsen Moghadam, a late faculty member of the Fine Arts. It is based on an image, which can be found in the stucco relief and seals of the Sasanid period. The seal stood for ownership.
Many professors and students of Tehran University have won prestigious national and international awards, the most notable of these is indeed the Nobel prize that was being awarded to Dr. Shirin Ebadi in 2003.
Tehran University is also called a Center of excellence, by Iran's Ministry of Science and Technology. It is very developed in the fields of urban planning, applied electromagnetic, advanced control and processing.
In 2005 and 2006, affiliated Tehran University of Medical Sciences occupied the top position among all the universities of Iran in medical research.
In 2006, Tehran University won the title for the advanced simulation league in the Robocup competitions in Germany. Apart from this the university's architecture graduates are probably the finest people in the country.
