It had evolved as the brand name for most of the WellPoint businesses operated outside of California, in 1995. WellPoint's acquisition of Rush Prudential Health Plans in Illinois in early-2000 had helped strengthening its UNICARE business to offer a broad array of products and services in Illinois ranging from traditional PPO products to HMO products.
