Premera Blue Cross was formed when in In June 1998, Blue Cross of Washington and Alaska merged with Medical Service Corporation (MSC) .
The health insurance company is headquartered in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, with operations being carried out in Seattle and Spokane, Washington, and Anchorage, Alaska. In June 2002, Premera had introduced a new approach to health plans called Dimensions and clearly assumed a leadership role in redefining and reinventing the way of providing health coverage. The company employs more than 3,000 employees in Washington and Alaska and it covers more than 1.2 million members in Washington and over 114,000 members in Alaska. There are some subsidiary bodies affiliated to Premera Blue Cross, including LifeWise Health Plan of Arizona, LifeWise Health Plan of Washington, LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon, and others.

Products and Services :

1. Individual and Family Health Plans (including Medicare and Non-Medicare Plans):

Medicare Plans:

• For members in Alaska:

Plan A (provides coverage for basic benefits)

Plan C (covers for skilled nursing, deductibles and foreign travel emergency)

Plan F (covers Plans A and C plus 100% of Part B excess charges)

Plan I (covers Plans A, C and F do, excepting Part B deductible and adds coverage for at-home recovery)

Plan J (covers Plan I, plus the Part B deductible and preventive care not covered by Medicare)

• For members in Washington:

1. Plan A (available to Medicare-eligible people, including those with Medicare who are under 65 years of age provides coverage for basic benefits)

2. Plan C (covers for skilled nursing, deductibles and foreign travel emergency)

3. Plan F (covers Plans A and C plus 100% of Part B excess charges)

4. Plan I (covers Plans A, C and F do, except the Part B deductible as well at-home recovery and basic drugs with a limit of $1250)

Non-Medicare Plans:

• For members in Alaska:

Alaska Value Care 25 (designed as the budget-friendly and has limited coverage for office visits)

Alaska Best Care 20 (members receive a wide range of coverage and pay lowest costs by themselves when using network hospitals)

Alaska Global 50 and Alaska Global 20 (provide extensive coverage for a wide range of medical services)

Alaska HSA 20, Alaska HSA Rx 20, and Alaska HSA Rx [designed to work together with tax-deductible Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)]

• For members in Washington:

Heritage Protector Plus 20 (Provides catastrophic coverage in case of major illness or accident)

Heritage Value Plus 30 (Low-cost coverage for illness or injuries)

Heritage Preferred Plus 30 (Provides coverage for routine medical services)

Heritage Preferred Plus 20 (Provides coverage for routine medical services)

3. Group Health Plans including:

Health Risk Management for Groups of 200 or More
